The Dutch Harpsichord library by realsamples brings an original harpsichord from 1628 to your desktop. The instrument was built by legendary builder Andreas Ruckers in Antwerpen (Dutch at that time). It was sampled with 6 different registers/combinations, including the upper 8′, lower 8′ (principal 8′), tutti, both 8′ together, the 4′ register as well as the lute stop.

The instruments of the Ruckers family represent the well-known and sought-after sound of Flemish harpsichords while ranking among the best harpsichords ever built. Their full and precious sound set out to influence the harpsichord designs in Spain, France, England and Germany.

Like all harpsichords, the Ruckers is not touch-sensitive. However, not any given note will sound exactly the same due to resonances of body and strings. Triggering off the exact same digital sample leaves a cold sounding impression – therefore, to capture more of the liveliness and depth of this antique instrument, realsamples recorded the registers with up to 8 variations of each note. To complete the harpsichord experience, they also captured 4 release samples of each note per register.

The sample library contains nearly 3.700 single samples. The instrument was recorded in its original tuning at 372 Hz. Presets for Kontakt® (full version required) are included at 372 Hz & 440 Hz, in Valotti and in equal temperament. realsamples recorded the harpsichord in 192 kHz/24 bits and downsampled the result to 44.1 kHz here.
