We are very proud of our very own Point Blank alumni Elisabeth, widely known by her artist name, Emily Fox. A graduate of Point Blank’s Electronic Music in Depth Online course, Emily further honed her skills with DJ/Production Courses Level 1 and Level 2 in Ibiza.

It’s fair to say that she’s dabbled in various fields of music. She’s a dynamic topline writer, vocalist, and producer based in Austria, making waves in the electronic music scene. With an impressive portfolio of around 40 tracks, many of which she has written, sung, and produced herself, Emily has garnered significant recognition and gained over 11.5 million Spotify streams. Her talent has been acknowledged through wins in prestigious contests like the Women Of Dance Mentorship by RCRDSHP, and she has received guidance from renowned artists like Vassy. This year, her music has enjoyed radio play in both Australia and Austria, with one of her tracks even breaking into the Top 10 on the Music Week Commercial Pop DJ chart.

Emily Fox is undoubtedly an artist to watch. Let’s hear what she has to say about her Point Blank experience as well as her music journey!

What led you to study at Point Blank?

To be honest, the advertisement just kept popping up on my socials and I decided to give it a shot!

Given that you did both Online and Ibiza courses, what was your experience in Point Blank like?

I absolutely loved both. The Online sessions helped me with my skills a lot. Especially the 1 on 1 session, the assignments pushed me to complete my productions. The Ibiza courses were one of the best experiences of my whole life. It was the first time I was around people burning with the same ambition. I made friends for life and I mean, Ibiza, you just got to love that island.

Did you have a favourite lecturer?

Oh, it’s too hard to only name one. I remember Mike Koglin was one of my first tutors in music production. He helped me massively with my mixing and answered all my questions patiently. Julian Peake was great, we even worked on a couple of tracks together after I completed the courses including “Till The Dawn Calls” released on Intu Music. Lastly, there was Juan, who showed us his mad DJ skills in Ibiza. He was very inspiring to me.

How did you get into dabbling in various fields in the industry (toplining, singing, producing, etc)?

Actually, I’ve been a singer for a very long time. I started by posting acoustic covers of popular songs on YouTube and Instagram. Suddenly producers were reaching out and asking me to topline their tracks – progressively drawing me into the electronic music scene more. After my first trip to Ibiza in 2019, I completely fell into it. I downloaded Logic Pro right away and got obsessed with music production.

What were some of the challenges you faced during the creative process? How did you overcome it?

It was quite hard for me to make a name for myself in the beginning. I’ve written, remixed, and produced hundreds of tracks and it always resulted in rejection after rejection. I spent so many hours in front of my computer trying to get better, until finally, the hard work started to pay off. It’s real when they say “trust the process”.

Any songs youve written that youre proud of? Any lyrics, melody, etc that you love.

I’d say it’s “Shoot For The Moon”. I wrote this track straight from my heart during the pandemic so it has a very personal meaning. It was completely written, sung, produced and mixed by me, and led me to win the RCRDSHP Women Of Dance competition.

We see that youve won 2nd place in the Do you Remember” Heartfeldt Remix Competition! As the only female contestant in the competition, any advice for our female students on submitting/auditioning for competitions?

I haven’t met many female producers, and I wonder why that is the case! Initially, I considered changing my name into a male alias so I would be taken seriously. In retrospect, I’m glad I didn’t. Times are changing so don’t be intimidated by being the only girl in the room.

Any current/future projects that youre excited to tell us about?

I’m super excited about going to the Amsterdam Dance Event this year. I’m going to meet up with some of the labels and collaborators I worked with, making new connections and of course, bringing a lot of fresh music.
