Phasenpunkt has just dropped Roadsoul Bass Lite, a vintage-inspired bass instrument available for free for HALion and HALion Sonic users.

This virtual instrument is based on the classic sounds of the Crumar Roady, a keyboard from the late ‘70s that defined the bass tones of the 1980s. The Roady, known for its analog charm, offered electric piano sounds, bass, and vibes, and Roadsoul Bass Lite seeks to bring those iconic tones into the digital era.

Before the release of the legendary Crumar Spirit, designed by Bob Moog, Crumar was already making waves with their quirky, often bulky, keyboard instruments like the Organizer and Jazzman. Though the exact release date of the Roady is uncertain, it remains a cult favorite for its distinctive sound and character.

Now, with Roadsoul Bass Lite, those vintage sounds are available in a modern, user-friendly format. The instrument features a robust four-stage effect chain, giving users the ability to shape their sound with ease. You can apply modulation effects like Chorus, Phaser, and Flanger, or add some grit with Bit and Rate Reduction. There’s also Ring Modulation, Frequency Shift, and a range of space-enhancing effects like Reverb and Delay. Amplification options round out the sonic flexibility, allowing for both classic tones and more experimental, psychedelic sounds.

Phasenpunkt has also released demos to showcase Roadsoul Bass Lite, highlighting its range from classic, funky basslines to more aggressive and experimental uses. Whether you’re after that signature 1980s keyboard bass or something more out there, this instrument offers plenty of creative potential.

To use Roadsoul Bass Lite, you’ll need Steinberg’s HALion (version 7 or higher) or the free HALion Sonic.

Download: Roadsoul Bass Lite (FREE – HALion or HALion Sonic required).
