Whether you’re living in London, or just here for a quick visit, watching a musical is always a great way to spend your evening. There are a variety of fantastic musicals on in the West End at all times, but we have compiled a list of 7 of the best musicals to see in the West End right now. Wicked
Since the film with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo came out in cinemas, everyone has been going crazy about Wicked, so why not take it up a level and watch the musical that the film was based on. Fan of the popular comedy-drama starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway? We have the perfect musical for you! The Devil Wears Prada The Musical, with music by Elton John, is now in the West End. In case you’re unfamiliar with the film, the story follows aspiring journalist Andy, and her new job at a prestigious runway magazine, working for the glamourous but terrifying editor-in-chief, Miranda Priestly. Moulin Rouge! The Musical
Yes, another musical based on a film, but this one is just so brilliant we couldn’t help including it. Imagine all of your favourite songs from the last 80 years of music, all performed in one musical. Well, Moulin Rouge! The Musical is just that, a glittery and extravagant jukebox musical, including over 50 songs, from all different decades. Based on the 2001 Baz Luhrmann film, about writer, Christian, and star performer in the Moulin Rouge, Satine’s, love story, the musical tells a story of love, loss and freedom. Why am I so Single?
One of the newest additions to the west end, and only running until January 19th, Why am I so single? is a new and completely original musical, by the writers of Six, about modern day dating, friendship and identity. If you are GenZ you will relate to almost every line, and if not, well you can still enjoy the vibrant set, big dance numbers, fantastic songs and witty lyrics. Following characters Nancy and Oliver, two writers struggling to write a musical, as well as struggling in the dating world, Why am I so single? perfectly balances comedy with moving and emotional moments to create a truly amazing show. Six
By the same writers as Why am I so single? Six the musical has been a world-wide phenomenon since it’s west end premiere in 2019, and if you haven’t seen it yet, what are you waiting for? The show takes the form of a pop concert, where all six wives of Henry VIII compete for the lead in their ‘band’ by comparing their lives, and whose was the worst. The show retells history in an engaging, funny and eye-opening way, drawing attention to how women throughout history have been pushed aside or generalized unfairly. The incredible songs, based on today’s popular music artists, such as Beyonce, Britney Spears and Adele are captivating, as well as the hilarious script and eye-catching costumes. Mean Girls
We couldn’t make this list and not include Mean Girls the Musical. Whether you’re a die-hard fan of the movie, or just love a fun, upbeat musical with big dance numbers and catchy songs, Mean Girls is the show for you. The show follows Cady, a home-schooled teen, navigate high school, friendships, and new found popularity with ‘The Plastics’ and queen bee Regina George. The songs are undeniably catchy, the script is witty, and the performances are terrific, what’s not to love? Now playing in the Savoy Theatre, with tickets starting at £25, that is so fetch! Mamma Mia
One of London’s most popular shows, and the 3rd longest running musical in the west end, Mamma Mia, is an absolute must see. The story is the same as the film; warm and loving Sophie lives with her mother Donna on idyllic island of Greece. Her biggest dream is to have her father walk her down the isle, the only problem… she doesn’t know which of the 3 men scribbled about in her mother’s diary is her dad.
