pointblank is very proud of its vibrant alumni network, which includes individuals who have reached exceptional heights in the music industry. Our graduates encompass talented music producers, engineers, DJs, songwriters, and esteemed musicians, all of whom have made a lasting impact in their areas of expertise. This week, we’re thrilled to highlight 7 of our outstanding female alumni over the years and give a glimpse into their remarkable careers!

Gemma Cairney

Gemma Cairney is a broadcaster, presenter, and DJ, best known for her work as a radio host on BBC Radio 6 Music, where she presents The Leisure Society, as well as her show Gemma Cairney on BBC Radio 1. Initially a stylist, she transitioned into broadcasting after completing a radio course at pointblank, a decision that led to her first radio role with Channel 4’s 4Radio service. In addition to her radio career, Gemma has a deep passion for music and culture, often integrating these themes into her work. Throughout her career, she has been a strong advocate for mental health awareness and has used her platform to empower and inspire young people.

Monki

After studying radio at pointblank, Monki has gone on to become a DJ and radio presenter, known for her eclectic mixes and vibrant energy behind the decks. With a passion for electronic music, she has gained a reputation for seamlessly blending house, techno, and bass-driven sounds in her sets. Monki has been a prominent figure on BBC Radio 1, where she showcases new talent and delivers her signature style to a wide audience. Her unique ability to read a crowd and create an infectious atmosphere has made her a favourite in both radio and live performance settings.

Leona Lewis

Singer, Songwriter Leona Lewis is best known for winning the third series of The X Factor in 2006. But before her career skyrocketed, she was a student on our singing course. Her debut single, “A Moment Like This,” topped the UK charts and launched a highly successful music career. Leona’s powerful voice and emotive ballads have earned her international acclaim, with hits like “Bleeding Love” becoming global anthems.

Izzy Bizu

Izzy Bizu is another singer-songwriter, who completed a songwriting course here at pointblank, before quickly making a name for herself with her soulful, genre-crossing sound. She first rose to prominence in 2015 with the release of her debut EP Coolbeanz, which showcased her unique voice and laid-back yet emotionally rich style. Her breakthrough came in 2016 with her debut album A Moment of Madness, which earned critical acclaim and featured hits like “Give Me a Reason” and “White Tiger.” Since then, Izzy has continued to build a successful career, collaborating with notable artists, and performing at major festivals.

Aluna Francis

Aluna Francis is a singer, songwriter, and music producer, best known as one-half of the acclaimed electronic duo AlunaGeorge. After studying music production at pointblank, her signature ethereal voice and innovative fusion of R&B, electronic and pop influences established her as a leading figure in the modern music scene. The duo’s breakout track “You Know You Like It” brought them international recognition and their genre-defying style has continued to captivate audiences worldwide. Throughout her career, she has remained a powerful advocate for gender equality and uses her music to address personal, social, and cultural issues.

Nicole Moudaber

Nicole Moudaber is a DJ, producer, and label owner, widely celebrated for her deep, hypnotic techno sound. Having studied DJing at pointblank, she quickly rose to prominence in the global electronic music scene with her distinctive blend of techno and house. Known for her commanding live performances, Nicole has graced major festival stages and held residencies at renowned clubs across the world. As the founder of MOOD Records, she continues to shape the industry by championing new talent and pushing the boundaries of electronic music.

IMOGEN

IMOGEN studied music production and sound engineering at pointblank and is now a presenter and DJ, known for her dynamic energy and keen ear for emerging music. With a background in both presenting and music curation, she has built a reputation for delivering engaging shows that blend a mix of genres, often spotlighting new and under-the-radar talent. Imogen’s work spans various platforms, where she connects with audiences through her lively style and passion for music. As a presenter, she is celebrated for her ability to create an infectious atmosphere and introduce listeners to fresh sounds and artists.
