Looking to change the scenery and create incredible music on a private island pointblank Music School, we’re pushing the boundaries of music education by offering two unique experiences just for our songwriting degree students. Teaming up with renowned British record producer Nigel Frieda (best known for founding the iconic girl group Sugababes and working with legends like The Rolling Stones), we’re looking beyond the traditional classroom by introducing this unique residential songwriting experience free with the course. 

As part of our BA (Hons) Music Production & Songwriting Degree, you’ll have the opportunity to visit this private island twice – once in your first term and also in your final year.  These two-day professional songwriting bootcamps are immersive experiences that allow you to work with the best songwriters in the business, collaborate with fellow students, and record your own music in a world-class studio.

What is The Bootcamp?

Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of London, Osea Island has become a sought-after destination for the creative industries, hosting major film and music productions. Renowned artists such as Stormzy, Rihanna and Charli XCX have recorded world-famous songs at Osea Island and described it as ‘surreal and spiritual’, the pointblank bootcamp provides the perfect space for our students to fully immerse themselves in their craft, surrounded by like-minded creatives and industry mentors. 

 At the bootcamp, our degree students can disconnect from everyday distractions and fully engage in the songwriting process. pointblank lecturer, Linton Bennett, believes “a trip like this is absolutely vital for anybody who wants to be a songwriter or produce great art” as it teaches you the importance of staying focused. Leah Haworth, pointblank Recordings (PBR) artist and current student, loves how special this songwriting experience is, “it’s got this energy to it that just feels so mystical.” 

This is a great opportunity for talented minds to collaborate. Students break into groups to explore new rhythms and riffs, stepping outside of their typical creative boundaries. “You kind of get out of your head a lot more,” Anu Chaoui, pointblank student, explained. “You generate ideas, but then other people see them from their point of view, change them a little, and it kind of becomes something new.” 

This collaborative approach mirrors the real-world songwriting process, where co-writing sessions often give rise to chart-topping hits. By the end of the bootcamp, students leave with a collection of original songs and valuable additions to their professional portfolios. By stepping away from familiar surroundings, students gain fresh perspectives and explore new creative approaches.  

The Complete Degree Experience

While the Osea Island songwriting bootcamp is a unique and exclusive element of our comprehensive songwriting programme, it’s just one component of our carefully curated degree. Throughout the course, students learn the core principles of songwriting, from lyrical and melodic composition to creating arrangements that captivate listeners. 

Based in vibrant Shoreditch (a global hub for music and creativity), students at pointblank have access to state-of-the-art studios equipped with industry-standard technology. Small class sizes ensure personalised support from lecturers who bring extensive experience working with artists like Pharrell Williams, Beyoncé, Gwen Stefani, and Rihanna. 

The curriculum also includes regular guest masterclasses, workshops, open mic nights, and performance events, offering invaluable networking opportunities. Students can even submit tracks to pointblank’s own record label, pointblank Recordings (PBR), providing real-world industry exposure.
